Zoo Curator

Rhonda heads the animal care team at the Amarillo Zoo and oversees many aspects of Zoo operations at the same time. She’s been Curator of the Zoo for 13 years, but has over 30 years experience in the field. She became interested in the zoo profession while in college. As part of the Pre-Vet Club, she visited different zoos and these visits along with her volunteer experience at her local zoo, Niabi Zoo, sparked her interest. Rhonda has an extensive education background including a B.S. degree in Biology from Iowa State University, AZA School for Professional Management Development for Zoo and Aquarium Personnel, AZA Principles of Elephant Management, and AZA Institutional Records Keeping. Rhonda’s animal favorites include Bengal tiger, Savannah and the North American badger. She enjoys any task that improves the quality of zoo operations and she enjoys the ability to work with a variety of animals.

The Amarillo Zoo is located in Thompson Park. Take Hwy 287 North off of I-40, take the N. 24th Ave. exit and go West, turn right into Thompson Park and follow the signs to the Zoo parking lot.
