There are over 50 species of tarantula that are native to the United States. About 15 species occur in Texas where they are found in every county in the state.
- Texas brown tarantulas have two mouthparts with large fangs to inject venom occur at the front of the cephalothorax.
- Tarantulas do have an exoskeleton that is periodically shed or molted as the body grows.
- Tarantulas are considered mygalomorphs, meaning they do not construct webs to catch prey.
