Texas brown tarantula

There are over 50 species of tarantula that are native to the United States. About 15 species occur in Texas where they are found in every county in the state.

  • Texas brown tarantulas have two mouthparts with large fangs to inject venom occur at the front of the cephalothorax.
  • Tarantulas do have an exoskeleton that is periodically shed or molted as the body grows.
  • Tarantulas are considered mygalomorphs, meaning they do not construct webs to catch prey.
