African spurred tortoise

Named after the spurs on its hind legs, these tortoises have broad, oval, flattened carapaces (top of shell), that are can brown to yellow in color.

  • African spurred tortoises are strictly vegetarian therefore only eat plant material.
  • These tortoises dig burrows in the ground where they take shelter from their harsh, hot, arid habitat.
