Pancake tortoise

Unlike most tortoise who have a dome shaped shell, the pancake tortoise has flat shell. Therefore, the pancake tortoise uses speed and agility to escape predators.

  • Pancake tortoises spend most of their time in crevices in the rocky hillsides.
  • Most of their water is obtained from the foods they eat which is vegetation.
  • The flexibility of their shell allows pancake tortoises to crawl into narrow rock crevices.
