Summer Safari Camp
Spend your summer at the wildest place in town! A summer filled with loads of activities, opportunities for exploration and learning, and terrific fun! Each day campers will explore the world of wildlife through arts, crafts, outdoor games, and hands-on activities. Meet animal care experts, take behind the scenes tours, and see animals up-close.  Each camp week is limited to 15 campers so register early! Advance registration is required. 
At the Amarillo Zoo summer camp, children 7 years old to 12 years old explore the habits and life styles of the zoo’s wild residents. Each week-long camp includes a lot of learning and fun, with crafts, games, animal visitors and tours of the zoo.
Time: 9am-3pm

Children are required to either bring a sack lunch or purchase a zoo lunch. Please note that refrigeration is not provided.The cost of a zoo lunch is $30 for the five days and can be purchase in advance or the first day of camp. Single day lunch purchases are $6.

Monday – Pork hot dog, chips and fruit
Tuesday – Cheese pizza, chocolate chip cookie and fruit
Wednesday – Breaded chicken strips, fries and fruit
Thursday - Pepperoni pizza, chocolate chip cookie and fruit
Friday - Hamburger, chips and chocolate chip cookie

*side of fruit varies from day to day and may include grapes, apples, oranges or bananas
*side of veggies varies and may include carrots or celery
*each meal will also include a milk or juice drink

Campers will receive a morning and an afternoon snack each day (included as part of camp registration-no extra fee).  Snacks might include items such as: bananas, Goldfish crackers, or fruit snacks (these items are tentative, subject to change, and vary from day to day). 

***Food items containing nuts are not served during camp.  However, we cannot guarantee a nut-free environment.  Camp kids often bring their own lunch items containing nuts, and nuts are a regular part of our animal diets.  Please disclose all participant food allergies during registration.  To discuss concerns or request special accommodations, please contact.

Zoo Keeper in Training
June 10-14
August 5-9 

Ages 10-12
Does your child want to be a Zoo Keeper?
Find out if they’ve got what it takes in this adventure-packed week! They will explore behind-the-scenes to learn what a Zoo Keeper’s unique chores are. Campers will have a busy morning as we prepare animal meals and treats, diagnose an animal as they view animal x-rays, and even clean exhibits. Leave your best clothes at home and come prepared to get down and dirty at the Zoo!

Animal Grossology
June 17-21

Ages 7-9
Spend a week learning about the wacky, wild, crazy, yucky and gross biology of the animal kingdom! Campers will have fun learning about these animals where kids will go from EWWW to COOL in this hands on, engrossing week of delight!

Zoo Vet Camp!
June 24-28
Ages 10-12
Help take care of the Zoo’s animals! Jr. Zoo Vet campers explore the basic vet techniques from making healthy diets, monitoring behavior and performing health checkups. Discover the ins and outs of animal health and learn how our Zoo staff takes care of our animals every day!

Junior Zoo Keeper
July 1-5
Ages 7-9
Join us for this exciting camp where we will discover what it takes to be a zoo keeper. Campers are introduced to zoo keeping and animal nutrition, learn about animals, create enrichment and help tidy up some animal areas. Campers will have an amazing summer experience! 

ZSI: Zoo Science Investigations
July 8-12
Ages 10-12
Do you have what it takes to be an animal detective? Join our team of wildlife investigators as we use CSI skills and tools to solve real-world animal mysteries. Follow clues like trails, tracks, scat, bones and more that animals leave behind. Finally, find out about threats to animals and their environments, including ways we can help save the animals!

Mythbusters: Zoo Edition
July 15-19
Ages 7-9
True or False? Touching a frog or toad will give you warts. Opossums hang by their tails. Bears like honey. We'll work as a team to discover which statements are facts and which are fiction.You'll observe animals and get expert information from zookeepers. Then produce your own episode of Mythbusters to share with others!

ZooTube Camp
July 22-26
Ages 10-12
Lights…Camera…ACTION! Become a wildlife film producer as we learn and produce mini video shows using the animals found at the Zoo. Follow in the steps of Steve Irwin, the Kratt Bothers and Jeff Corwin as you learn about animals while making fun and interactive videos.

The Incredibles
July 29- Aug 2
Ages 7-9
Calling all Incredibles!  Join us for a week of super fun as we learn about animals with super powers. We will explore how birds fly, the agility of a monkey, the strength of a lion. This camp is perfect for any superhero who loves science!

Things to Know

Age and Grade Level
It is important to us that your child receives the best experience. As such, we hope that you will help us by honoring the grade level guidelines. Each camp is for children entering that grade level in the fall of 2019.

Extra Purchases (Before/After Care, Lunch, T-shirts)
Weekly lunches, weekly before/after care, and additional camp t-shirts can all be purchased through during your registration process, in person at camp drop or by calling 806-381-7911. One camp shirt will be provided.

Check-in begins at 8:50 a.m. at Admissions.
For the safety of your children, we will only release your child to the person/s you list as authorized on your registration. If there are emergencies/last-minute changes, please notify instructors at check-in or call 381-7911. Please note, a photo ID is required for pick up.

Extended Care Fees:

  • Before Care (7:30 am-9:00 am): $25/wk
  • After Care (3:00 pm-5:00 pm): $25/wk       
  • Before & After Care: $50/wk

Registration, Confirmation and Cancellation
Pre-registration is required for all camps. After your registration is processed, you will receive an email for camp payment arrangements and to confirm your camp spot. Afterwards, a confirmation email will be sent (please check your spam folder) with additional information on preparing your child for a Zoo camp experience. Your registration is not confirmed until you receive this confirmation.  Call 806-381-7911 if a confirmation email is not received.

Payment can be made over the phone, by mail or in person. NO refunds are given for cancellations made less than 14 days prior to the first day of camp. For cancellations made more than 14 days prior to first day of program a 70% refund will be given. Participants must provide a written notice to qualify for a 70% refund The Amarillo Zoo reserves the right to cancel any program. In the event that the Amarillo Zoo cancels a program, all program fees will be refunded. Refund processing takes two to three weeks. No refunds will be issued for no-shows or after the start date of the session for which you are registered.
