Special Event Volunteers
Thank you for wanting to be a Special Event volunteer for the Amarillo Zoo’s annual Easter EGG-citement event. Close to 5,000 people attended last year which makes it one of the most popular zoo events we offer. The Zoo utilizes over 50 volunteers to make this event possible and without the help from community volunteers like you we could not offer such a fun family event. Below is some information that will help prepare you for your time as an Easter EGG-citement ZOO PEEP! Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any more questions or you are unable to keep your commitment
Thanks again for helping us for Easter EGG-citement! Please contact us if you have questions.

If you are part of an organization (School, business, etc.) please indicate so in the 'Group Name" field below.
- What time should I arrive?
We ask volunteers to arrive at the Zoo no later than 8:30am. This will allow you time to settle in, receive your assignment and get to your station.
- What time will the event end and when can I leave?
The event ends at 3:00pm but we ask our volunteers to stay until 3:30 to help pick up stations.
- What should I wear?
Dress comfortably. Tennis shoes or hiking boots are fine but please do not wear open toed shoes or flip flops. Dress for the weather. Many of our stations are outside. Hats, sunglasses and sunscreen are all advisable. You will be assigned an orange volunteer vest to wear during the event. Some of you may be asked to be a costumed character. These are full body costumes such as a tiger, bison, fox, etc.
- Will there be breaks?
We will give everyone short breaks if possible and a quick lunch. Due to the nature of this event it is not uncommon for these breaks to be very quick.
- What about lunch?
We will supply a lunch for the volunteers or you may bring your own. We do not have enough refrigeration for lunches so be sure to bring something that is non-perishable. The Zoo will supply everyone a hotdog combo meal which includes a soft drink and chips.
- Is there any necessary paperwork I need to bring?
A photo release and waiver form. Please fill them out and bring all 3 with you the morning of the event. If you accidently leave one at home we’ll have blanks here for you to use.
- What if the weather is bad?
We try our best to have the event even if it is cold, windy or intermittent light rain. Please be prepared to come out and dress for the occasion.
- What should I not bring?
We do not have individual storage lockers so we encourage volunteers to bring as little as possible. We recommend bringing just what you can carry in your pockets. Personal water bottles are encouraged. Cell phones can also be carried but we ask you to refrain from using them at your station.
