World Lion Day

Come prepared to have a roaring good time as the Zoo honors our amazing pride of lions. On Saturday, August 11th the Amarillo Zoo will join Zoo’s around the world in celebration of World Lion Day. This special day is celebrated to bring awareness to this species of big cat and what you can do to help ensure their survival in the wild. Visitors can have fun learning about lions and participating in a variety of fun activities!

  • Learn about lions and the problems they face in their natural habitat. Learn what you can do to make a difference!
  • Listen to lion keeper chats.
  • Watch our lions have fun with a special enrichment activity at 10:30am (Lions will be off exhibit until this time)
  • Take a selfie at our “I Love Lions” photo wall and share your love for lions on social media.
  • Get your face painted.
  • See how your hand print compares with a lion’s paw print in a fun and awesome art activity.
  • Pledge to do your part in the support for lions and the protection of their natural habitat.

Admission:
$4 adults (13-61)
$3 senior (62 and up)
$2 child (3-12)

The Amarillo Zoo is located in Thompson Park. Take Hwy 287 North off of I-40, take the N. 24th Ave. exit and go West, turn right into Thompson Park and follow the signs to the Zoo parking lot.
